The Artistic Sense and Umami

There was an interesting, if oddly written, article on the NPR website wherein the writer compares the fifth taste, known as umami, to the way that artists view the world. I say oddly written because the author, Robert Krulwich, throws in the paragraph about artists seemingly out of the blue. But it’s an interesting paragraph, anyway. Here it is.
The Beast in Show opening was great. Thanks to everyone who came out. The art by 5 local artists depicting various monsters/creatures, is hanging at the Exchange now.
Right now, we’re sharing a space with C-Rex, at the Fest. Local artists are painting on a reclaimed materials using reclaimed paint, all of which will be auctioned off to benefit the work of C-Rex. Pretty cool; check it out. We’re behind Common Grounds.
We’re hoping to meet with several campus groups in the next couple of weeks to extend our reach in Gainesville. If you’re part of an organization on campus that deals with art, social justice issues or environmental/sustainability issues, then hit us up; we’d love to talk with you.
