These are the pieces that will be included in the silent auction this Tuesday the 18th at the Sharab!

13 local Gainesville artists collaborated to make three 8′ x 8′ panels during THE FEST 2008 in an effort to raise awareness of carbon-neutrality! With 100% recycled materials (Reclaimed wood, and reclaimed house paint) the artists worked vigorously over just three days to create three cohesive pieces. The resulting working is a stunning mix of materials, surfaces, imagery, and styles. Society Promotions is proud to present this work in a silent auction to benefit both Neutral Gator and C-REX (Carbon Reduction and Energy Exchange).

The three large panels with be partially divided into smaller panels and auctioned in a “silent-auction” format at the Sharab Lounge (downtown, gainesville). The event is this Tuesday night, November 18th, at 8pm, and admission is free. Please join use in celebrating this exciting collaboration of artists and the community all while raising funds and awareness for the carbon neutral effort!!

Over the weekend (Nov 1-2), we had about twelve community artists come to downtown Gainesville to collaborate on the mural associated with neutralizing carbon footprint of THE FEST (refer to post below). It was a wonderful time. We constructed three 8′ x 8′ panels using recycled wood from previously demolished structures (e.g., parts of an old desk, some flooring from an old building). Bearded Brothers donated reclaimed 2×4’s which allowed us to frame the panels before adding the old wood, and the artists used reclaimed, donated house paints.

There were lots of pictures taken, but these are from my phone and were taken as the artists were just getting started.

We’ll post more as they become available.

When the artists finished on Sunday night, the pieces had been transformed from eclectic-looking wood panels to beautiful, colorful art reflecting of the common good of our environment.

On Tuesday, November 18th, at The Sharab (downtown Gainesville) we will auction-off each of these pieces.

The proceeds will be donated to one of the organizations that helped to offset the carbon footprint for THE FEST.
